Most agree that these core conditions are the expressions of attitudes towards others and that the ability to express these attitudes is affected by perceptual factors, sensitivity, and the ability to respond affectively, cognitively and behaviourally. There has been much debate about whether, for example, empathy is a quality or a skill. The writer believes it is both. However, prior to any response is the qualitative capacity, sensitivity, imagination and willingness to ‘be with’.

This counsellor will have built up counselling experience whilst doing training.
