Swartz (1788) collected and described several species of polypores from Jamaica, and Hennings (1898) described three more species collected by Lindau. Murrill (1910, 1911a, b, c, d, 1915, 1920a,b, 1921a,b) collected in Jamaica in the early 1900s and described many new species. Despite these efforts, the basidiomycetes of Jamaica remained poorly known, many represented by a single collection.
