As shown by the Mossbauer spectra in Figure 22(a), we have a splat with a surface which is amorphous, whereas crystalline precipitates which were identified as B-iron, are present in the bulk. The question arose as to whether the crystallization process occurs at the surfaces or at the crystalline seeds of the bulk. Figure 22(b) shows the Mossbauer spectra of this sample which was heat treated under the same conditions as before (one hour at 650K in a static vacuum of lOPa). The primary crystallization of B-iron observed at the surface indicates that, in this case also, crystallization and precipitation processes proceed from the surface.
